Champions League Season 1997 - 1998: How it works |
| Entry to the Champions League was
extended this season to include the runners up in the top eight
European leagues. Two Qualifying Rounds filtered 16 from 48 clubs who
progressed into the Group Stage of 6 groups of 4. These 16 clubs were
joined in the Group Stage by the top eight seeded clubs.
The 6 group winners proceeded to the knockout stage
together with two 'lucky losers' - the two teams finishing 2nd in
their group with the best record. |
